physical therapy

Mobility and Function set the pace of individual independence.

When these capabilities are hampered, professional treatment administered by those experienced in the science of movement has a direct bearing on quality of life.

Physical Therapy helps restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain and limit permanent physical disabilities from injuries or disease.

Benefits from Physical Therapy include:

Reduction or Elimination of Pain
Therapy and treatments can help relieve pain while restoring muscle and joint function.

Surgery Avoidance and Recovery
With pain elimination and injury treatments, surgery may not be necessary. Pre-surgery Physical Therapy helps develop strength to facilitate faster post-surgery recovery.

Improved Mobility
Stretching and strengthening exercises help restore ability to move.

Stroke Recovery
Physical Therapy helps strengthen weakened parts of the body, while improving balance and walking.

Sports Injury Recovery
Appropriate recovery and prevention exercise programs address types of injuries specific to various sports.

Balance Improvement and Fall Prevention
Coordination exercises customized to individual movement dynamics help to reduce falls and injury.

Age-Related Mobility Management
With the onslaught of arthritis or osteoporosis, Physical Therapy can help keep seniors more mobile and fit, even when assisted with a walking device.

Childhood Movement Issues
Children can benefit from treatments designed to improve motor skills and address neurological issues.

A Synergistic and Supportive Approach

The Continuum works closely with referring agencies, physicians, educators, therapists and case managers to assure that treatment strategies are effectively integrated with other programs in which clients participate. Where appropriate, we also work with clients in the community, at work, and in education centers.

In recognizing the importance of positive reinforcement from family members and caregivers, we also encourage their participation in our client treatment programs. Family conferences are often scheduled as part of the individualized plan for progress. Together with our Physical Therapists, client and family develop program goals aimed at
increased independent functioning.

aston kinetics  Fitness for Living Classes for Seniors

Aston Fitness for Living Classes are more than an exercise program.
It’s a new way of living for Seniors.

In the Aston Classes, Seniors learn movements and exercises to improve muscle
strength and flexibility, improve circulation, decrease compression of tissues, and
improve posture. Combined with instruction in the principles of safe body mechanics
and ergonomics, Aston classes teach Seniors to be “body smart”, improving function
and decreasing risk of injury during activities such as walking, bending, reaching,
lifting and getting in and out of furniture and cars.
